    acs applica headset manual

It provides a SOAP interface, and thus is language independent. Sample applications in Java are available. The required release of Red Hat Enterprise Linux is specified in the Software Only Installation documentation for the AE Services release in question. While older releases may work, they are not supported from an Avaya Customer Services maintenance contract perspective. Customers with issues will be required to upgrade to a supported release before problem investigation will proceed. Verify that the DLG client application is running and properly configured to connect to the appropriate Client link number on AE Services and that link is configured for the correct CTI Link in Communication Manager. Once you have reviewed the limitations on procurements, select the link titled Access DevConnect Procurement Benefits. Many cases work, but some cause issues. Support from DMCC for auto answer has improved release over release as problematic scenarios are found, and fixed, although the official stance is one of non-support.Each service (DLG, CVLAN, and TSAPI) consumes one or more CTI links. Between an AE Services and Communication Manager you provision a 'Switch Connection'. You provision DLG, CVLAN, and TSAPI CTI links to use a specific Switch Connection. Each DLG, CVLAN or TSAPI CTI link you provision is counted against the limit of 16 supported by that AE Services server. DMCC DAPI links (used for licensing and call information services) and SMS connections are not counted against the limit. H.323 DMCC Device registrations are not counted against the limit. Communication Manager 3.1 and more recent releases supports up to 64 CTI links. If you are using CTI link types, you can create 16 CTI links to a 3.0 Communication Manager and 64 CTI links to more recent Communication Manager releases from one or more AE Services servers.

Close or press ESC Follow these instructions to enable JavaScript in your web browser before continuing. How can more applications monitor a single device? What is the cause of this problem and what is the solution? The first warning I get is ldap does not own any files. It gives almost same functionality of TSAPI and it is a Java implementation of TSAPI driver using the JTAPI object model. It is intended for simple click to call functionality.

These services are typically Automatic Route Selection (ARS) (commonly dial 9), Automatic Alternate Routing (AAR - used in private network situations), or Uniform Dial Plan (UDP) which leverages one of the above two services. The destination number typically includes the ARS or AAR access code. When UDP is used the routing tables specify an ARS or AAR route explicitly. The way to accomplish this is through Real-time Control Protocol (RTCP) Monitoring. Configure the IP address of the server that will receive RTCP information from Avaya Communication Manager using the SAT command 'change ip-network-region'. How can more applications monitor a single device? Depending in which API is used, one or more of these domain controls is used for a station monitor (domain control on a station extension). With DLG and CVLAN each application consumes one domain control. With TSAPI, JTAPI and DMCC, a single domain control is used by all applications monitoring that station extension (they are multiplexed). So for example, two TSAPI applications using one AE Services server consume one domain control on Communication Manager for a specific station extension, while if the same two applications are using separate AE Services servers to monitor the same extension, two Communication Manager domain controls would be consumed for that station. What is the cause of this problem and what is the solution? Disable SELinux and reboot the system. Following are the ways to disable the SELinux present on the system. The TSAPI API method is attQueryACDSplit(), and the JTAPI API method is ACDAddress.getNumberQueued(). Starting with AE Services release 6.0 most TSAPI capabilities are exposed in the DMCC SDK. The DMCC method GetAcdSplit() will return the number of agents logged in, the number of available agents and the number of calls in the split's queue. Prior AE Services versions (3.x) did not, and starting with release 5.1 AE Services does not require a SMS license).

It is recommended that application developers review the information that is in the TSAPI for Communication Manager Programmer's Reference related to Bridging. It applies to TSAPI, JTAPI and DMCC Call Control applications. CVLAN and DLG application developers should refer to the ASAI Programmer's Reference where similar information is provided. The document states what is supported. You should assume that everything else is not supported. In other words, an Avaya Softconsole can be service observ ed, but cannot be a service observ er. You cannot use TSAPI to monitor call information from an Attendant console (soft or hard). Thus unless you can access the call identifier by some other mechanism (monitoring the other party in the call), recording an attendant by this technique is not achievable. One way you could accomplish the hold feature is by using the switch-hook flash to activate a 'soft hold' as the first step, and then press switch-hook flash again to get back to the held call. However this interval varies by country and is configurable on Communication Manager. CTI can also be used to place a call on hold at an analog station. Once a call is held at an analog station, if the station is placed in an on-hook state, the station will alert to remind the user of the held call. Going off hook reconnects the call to the user. To prevent this re-alert, the phone must be left in an off hook state. For more information, please refer to 'Avaya Call Center Release 4.0 Automatic Call Distribution (ACD) Guide' document 07-600779 Release 4.0 dated Feb 2007 ( ) If Event Minimization is set to 'y', the number of events can be reduced to one on the link. For more information, see the version of Administrator Guide for Avaya Communication Manager appropriate for the release of Communication Manager you are working with. All have a license cost. The least expensive way to acquire access to third party call control functionality is via TSAPI.

The Connection State can be in the following states:The total number of CMs that can be configured on one AE Services server is limited by the number Application Enablement protocol (AEP) licenses. The 'Link' option displays the maximum number of CMs that can be configured on an AE Services server (which shows 16).Login to Linux with root permission, and set the password for the cust login using the 'passwd cust' Linux command. Follow the password rules in the AE Services 4.1 Administration and Maintenance guide regarding case, alphanumerics and numerics. The system should have created a cust login for you to use with the necessary permissions to create new accounts. The system did not set up a password for the cust login. To fix this problem login to Linux with root permission, and set the password for the cust login using the 'passwd cust' Linux command. You may also want to create a 'craft' Linux account for convenience. Follow the password rules in the AES 4.1 Administration and Maintenance guide regarding case, alphanumerics and numerics. But Monitoring Services and Snapshot Services can obtain third party information about the devices participating in a specific call or the information about calls associated with a given device. Monitoring services can monitor devices like ACD splits, VDNs and station extensions. Snapshot services can retrieve information from station extensions. Thus changing these settings will also impact administration users of AE Services. This feature will be supported on AE Services 4.1 and CM 5.0 or later. The interest level is high enough to justify a FAQ in this area describing how to acquire that information from Communication Manager. There is a corresponding FAQ in the IP stations FAQ list titled 'How can SNMP be enabled on the 46xx series IP telephones?' that details how to acquire the MAC information by sending a query to the 46xx series IP Stations. Stop the Master Agent by clicking the Stop Agent button.

Once the trial period has expired, subsequent attempts to acquire licenses will be blocked until the server is properly licensed for its capacity usage. As the application initializes, it activates service observing on a specific destination station (the observed extension or observee). When calls arrive at the observed extension, Communication Manager automatically connects the SO party into the call when the destination station answers. Release 4.0 increases the number of SO parties in a call to two. Typically TSAPI is used to monitor the observed extension to collect call data such as calling party number. The application then invokes the DMCC, TSAPI or JTAPI Single Step Conference feature to conference in the recording device when the recorded station is active on a call. The recording device is implemented as a DMCC Softphone. This technique overcomes some of the limitations of the other techniques. With silent recording, the participants of the call are unaware that a recording resource was added to the call. See the appropriate API documentation to learn how to utilize this capability. The timer's default value is 20 seconds, and it can be set to any value between 5 seconds and 60 seconds. There are no events that indicate Heartbeat handshake failures. The client application can detect whether the TCP connection between it and the server is still active.Starting in AE Services release 4.2 in conjunction with Communication Manager release 5.1, two licensing mechanisms are supported.Application Enablement Services Overview document for the release of AE Services you are working with. The state of an interface can be one of the following:Intfce-down - The interface is not functioning and cannot accept incoming communications. Listening - The interface is up and running and AESVCS services has connected to it.

AES uses 20 seconds idle time, 20 seconds response time. The difference in timers is intentional, and should cause CM to be the primary sender of heartbeats, but allows AES to also detect failures (and helps prevent issues with both sides detecting failure at the same time). Also note that if only one side is sending messages over a particular socket (with no messages coming back), it will eventually send a heartbeat request over that socket to make sure that the other side is still alive. This is because the developer must integrate RTP into the application. In particular, for the sender side of the application, the developer must write code into the application which creates the RTP encapsulating packets; the application then sends the RTP packets into a UDP socket interface. Similarly, at the receiver side of the application, the RTP packets enter the application through a UDP socket interface; the developer therefore must write code into the application that extracts the media chunks from the RTP packets. The Java media stack API and documentation is available on the devconnect web portal in the DMCC SDKs web page ( ). It provided limited capabilities to exercise error logs, and no feature interaction testing capability. It also supported a much older version of TSAPI capabilities. It is no longer supported. More information about IPCoDE can be found on the DevConnect web portal at Typically, a VDN collects digits from the user when a call is delivered at the VDN and passes the call to its next destination, which may either be a station or another VDN. A monitored VDN reports only the UEC that it receives and not the UEC it collects. If there are multiple VDNs in the call flow which collect the UEC, then only the last UEC is reported. Applications receive UEC as a private data member in events such as Delivered, Established, etc. This information may be a customer number, credit card number, alphanumeric digits, or a binary string.

The applications are responsible for copying or entering the information into the call's UUI. When an application enters information into a call's UUI, any previous UUI is overwritten. UUI is shared across CTI platforms, i.e., UUI is sent over ISDN, SIP and H.323 trunks to remote PBXs where it is available to CTI applications at the remote switch. If it is not, contact your Business Partner or Avaya Sales personal to have it modified. Browse to the Station section. In Feature Options, set the field Audible Message Waiting to 'Y' and set the Message Server Name field (which has been renamed as Audix Name) to the server name. An application can send a SOAP request and set the Model as 'Agent', Operation as 'Display' and Qualifier as xxxxx where xxxxx is the extension number of the calling party, and retrieve the name associated with the extension. However, with TSAPI, JTAPI and SMS Web Services, the name associated with an extension can be retrieved when the extension is known and the user would like to retrieve the associated name. Browse to 'CALL CENTER SYSTEM PARAMETERS, EAS' section and ensure that the field 'Expert Agent Selection (EAS) Enabled' is set to yes. If these settings are not enabled, please contact Avaya or your Business Partner. Set the appropriate values for the following parameters: Page 1: You may need to modify the dial-plan via the 'change dial-plan analysis' form to configure feature access codes. Set the appropriate values for the following parameter: Page 1: Agents cannot login to a hunt-group with the auto answer feature set to 'all'.In case of 'Auto answer' mode, the available agent will hear a ZIP tone and automatically receive the call via headset. The SMS interface uses System Access Terminal (SAT) commands run on Avaya Communication Manager on specific objects. In the SMS interface, under Request Parameters, select Model as SoftwareVersion and Operation as List and submit the request.

The default community string for read-only is public. Provide Community String for the Community Name (read-write) field. The default community string for read-write is private. Note: Make sure to change read-write community string from private to something else. Start the Master Agent by clicking the Start Agent button. Tlinks are service identifiers that are automatically generated by the TSAPI Service when the TSAPI service starts. If the connection state is other than 'talking', it means the CM and AE Services server are not configured correctly. The first warning I get is ldap does not own any files. If the SELinux status is 'enforcing', change it to 'disabled'. To provide call recording warning tones, the recording application itself needs to provide the warning tones through the RTP media stream. Another term for this is IP-Hoteling. This may occur when:In other words, a specific user needs a telephone number that is unique to them, regardless of where they may be sitting. This practice is called 'Hot-Desking'. Two types of SAT sessions are available: secure (using SSH) and non-secure (using telnet). SSH is established on TCP port 5022 and telnet is established on TCP port 5023. In CM 4.0 and above versions the telnet port is disabled by default. It has to be enabled explicitly by configuring ports on the Communication Manager server. In such a case, only one session can execute change commands at a time (e.g., change trunk-group, change station ). The maximum number of pool of connection is limited by the switch type being used. When the agent selects a call from the list managed by the application, the application transfers that call to that agent via a direct agent call. This prevents agent becoming available for new ACD calls. In order to accept calls again, Agent need to change the state to 'Ready' by pressing the 'manual-in' button. The application will need to restart the monitors in order to begin receiving events (with AE Services 4.

1 and Communication Manager 5.0, the application can have two monitors on the same extension through separate AE Servers and thus the loss of one AE Services server need not necessarily disrupt the flow of events to the application). After a failover and reestablishment of monitors, to find the state of existing or ongoing calls, the application must do a snapshot device and snapshot call. It is recommended to do both (i.e. snapshot call and snapshot device) as the call may have changed state and there may be more (or less) active calls on the device. Ideally this should be part of applications' general initialization strategy. On the SAT terminal execute the following command: If they are not, then contact your Avaya Support Team or Business Partner to have these features enabled. The CLAN IP addresses of that particular switch connection are displayed and can be modified if required. However, Avaya recommends two links per Communication Manager, thereby limiting the number of CTI-links to 8). To communicate with a specific Communication Manager, an application needs to open a stream for a specific CTI-Link on the AE Services server. This CTI-Link determines which CM is referenced. The application can use multiple CTI-links by managing various open streams. Our suspicion is it is tied to the power management settings in VMWare. Such a station can be used to support various service scenarios. One specialized use is with CTI as an origination point for calls. Those actions are sent to the WML Server and not to Communication Manager. IP PUSH support will not be available in DCP or other multifunction TDM based phones. There is no provision to get events on a button up or down transition from any API provided by Avaya. If multiple parties are in the call, the application cannot determine which party is pressing the keypad buttons. CM uses 10 seconds idle time (to send a heartbeat), 20 seconds response time (to receive a response).

The Communication Manager version information is returned in the response. This is the result of executing a System Access Terminal (SAT) command 'busy-out cti-link X'. This is could be verified by looking at the command history using SAT command list history. If this is the case, then the CTI link could be brought back in service using the command 'release cti-link X'. Application Enablement Services has received an export classification of 5D002.c.1 ENC Unrestricted. Products written that interface to AE Services APIs need to be classified separately by the manufacturer. To verify which codecs are supported by the network region, follow these steps:Find the codec set number (X) under the Media Properties section. On a S8700 Communication Manager server, there is a limit of 10,000 monitored VDNs per server. This is not an AE Services limitation, but is imposed by the size of a data structure in Communication Manager. There is no coded limit to the number of VDNs that can be entered into the AE Services Security Data Base. These APIs provide the relevant information about Call Centers and Agents. The APIs provide a means of getting information on the Call Center agent states as well. If an application is running on a Microsoft platform, consider using TSAPI which will provide the necessary help. If an application is using Java, using JTAPI will prove to be beneficial. To robustly handle the failover situation in this environment, twice the licenses that a single server would need are required. If a call is triggered to a busy destination (either manually by using the physical phone, or programmatically by using the call control APIs), Communication Manager provides a busy tone to the calling station. In case of a CTI application monitoring the call, Communication Manager sends a CTI event to the application indicating the cause of the failure.

If no further action is taken after an interval of 30 to 40 seconds, the call is cleared to free up the resources it was using so that those resources may be diverted to other calls. If the CTI application wishes, it can either trigger a clearing of the busy call and then place a replacement call, or it can wait until Communication Manager clears the call (and provides relevant events to indicate the same) and then initiate new calls. For example, assume that a call originates on trunk A and terminates to station B, and station B answers the call and subsequently transfers the call to station C. If station C is the only monitored station of the group, then in the transferred event, the information regarding party A will show up as a dynamic device identifier, and A's identity will be unknown to the CTI application. In this case, the AE Services server just provides a trunk reference (a dynamic device ID) at the transferred monitored device C. Since the AE Services server has no information about the calling party (the off-PBX number) because Communication Manager did not provide calling party number, AE Services server provides a dynamic device Id as the off-PBX calling party's number. If instead, there are monitors on B and C prior to originating the call, then in the transferred event, the monitor for C will be provided with A's identity (assuming that A's identity was provided). The Acquired column displays the number of current licenses being used by AES applications. A similar table will be displayed with columns indicating peak usage in the last 7 days and peak usage in the last 30 days. Third party call control capabilities include controlling specific calls or stations, complete routing of incoming calls, receiving notifications of events, invoking Communication Manager features and querying Communication Manager for information. The TSAPI interface provides call control services such as Direct-Agent Call and Predictive Dialing between two devices.

The TSAPI Route Request Service Group allows the Communication Manager to request and receive routing instructions for a call from an adjunct application. The TSAPI Query Service Group describes services that allow a client application to query the switch to provide the device's state (e.g. talking state), feature state (e.g. call forwarding satus) and static attributes (e.g. device name). The TSAPI Escape Services Group allows an application to request a private service that is not defined by the CSTA Standard. Avaya has implemented a variety of services accessed through the Escape service such as Single Step Conference. It also provides basic third party call control. Device control allows applications to manipulate and monitor the physical aspects of devices, such as buttons, lamps, the display and the ringer. Applications can simulate manual actions on devices and obtain the status of their physical elements. The application is doing device control only. The DMCC service enables application developers to access Avaya Communication Manager's telephony features via the following supported CSTA services:While the vector may not be 'ringing' in the traditional sense, the transfer operation is supported by Communication Manager. Verify that the IP address of the CLAN(s) specified in the 'Name or IP Address' column is correct (i.e. is a CLAN or procr IP address on Communication Manager). If the IP address is incorrect, correct the IP address by adding the correct Communication Manager CLAN or procr IP address(es) and deleting the incorrect address(es) by using the buttons on the 'Edit CLAN IPs' AE Services form. Verify that the status of the switch connection under 'Conn State' column is 'Talking.' If there are multiple CLANs provisioned click on Switch Connection Details and verify the state of all the CLANs is 'Talking.' If any interface is not in the 'Talking' state continue investigating.

Verify that the Switch CTI link number matches the CTI link configured in Avaya Communication Manager. Use the command 'list cti-link' at the System Access Terminal (SAT) command prompt of Avaya Communication Manager to list the configured CTI links and get the correct CTI-link number. Select the Communication Manager Switch Connection that has been configured and click Edit Connection and update the password. Also follow Step 2.b in the Avaya Communication Manager section below to set the corresponding password in Avaya Communication Manager. There is no mechanism to check what the provisioned password is. If the CLAN or procr IP address is not set correctly, then correct the IP address using the command 'change node-names ip'. If the switch connection uses the procr interface use the 'display ip-interface procr' command. If the procr IP address does not match that which is provisioned in AE Services, return to step 1 and change the provisioned IP address for the switch connection on AE Services.Screen shot is shown in step 2.c below. Compare this to the output of the 'hostname -s' Linux command on AE Services. The TSAPI client can be installed using the Avaya installer for the appropriate operating system, or by providing an equivalent installer. For Windows systems, the installer must install the required dlls ( CSTA32.DLL and ATTPRIV32.DLL ), TSAPI client library configuration file ( TSAPI.INI ), and update the registry entry. For Linux systems, the installer must install TSAPI client library configuration file ( tslibrc ) and libraries ( libattpriv.so, libcsta.so ). Note that AE Services Overview document contains fewer endpoints for some releases. Note also that the Compatibility Matrix requires SSO access to Avaya content. No other SIP endpoints (neither Avaya or third party) are officially supported for use with CTI.

A switch connection to one Communication Manager using three CLANs and another to a different Communication Manager using two CLANs would require a total of five licenses. A switch connection with one CLAN uses only one AEC license. However, if a second CLAN is configured as part of an AE Services Switch Connection, the AE Services server would consume two AEC licenses. In order to use a third CLAN, they need to purchase an additional AEC license.A connection between AE Services and a procr interface on Communication Manager consumes one AEC license. The device needs to be configured in the AE Services server device list under Security Database with the correct Device type. For a Hunt Group, the device type is 'ACD', For a Vector Directory Number, the Device type is 'VDN'. A Station is configured with type as 'PHONE'. To monitor Hunt Group, Address.addCallObserver() method is used and a Vector Directory Number is monitored using CallCenterAddress.addCallObserver(). DMCC doesn't support Vector Directory Number and Hunt Group monitor. A station can be in an Idle (on-hook), in a Busy (off-hook) or an out of service state. An Agent can be LOGGED IN or LOGGED OUT.The method returns the 'number of available Agents', 'Agents logged in to a Hunt group' and 'number of calls in queue' in the confirmation event. By utilizing the Agent's current state, the number of available Agents in a Hunt group can be determined. When a Call Center Agent changes into the AUX Work mode or logs out, depending on system and agent-loginID configuration settings, the Agent can provide a reason code. Reason Codes give Call Center managers detailed information about how Agents spend their time. This data can be used to develop more precise staffing forecasting models or can be used with schedule-adherence packages to ensure that Agents are performing scheduled activities at the scheduled times.

Do not use abbreviations for either the location or the name of the university. If the lab manual is available online, such as from a website for the course, end your citation with the URL where the lab manual can be found. In addition to your bibliography, you also must provide in-text citations at the end of any sentence that directly references or quotes from the lab manual.Generally, in ACS style you treat a lab manual as a book that was authored by the instructor of the class in which the lab manual was used. Use the professor's last name, followed by their middle initial.Write the title of the lab manual in title-case, capitalizing all words except conjunctions, articles, and prepositions. Place a semi-colon after the title.Since the instructor is employed by the university where they teach, the university is placed in the position where you would normally list the publisher. Use the full name of the university without abbreviations.Following the colon, provide the city and state or province where the university is located.Consider the year the lab manual was used to be the year it was published. You'll typically find the year on the cover or first page of the lab manual.Depending on the style of in-text citations you're using, you may be using end notes rather than a separate bibliography of references.

However, if you're citing to a lab manual, you'll use the name of the university department for which the lab manual was created instead.

If you're using either the Vancouver or citation-name style, you still need to include the year the lab manual was published. This article has been viewed 71,116 times.Next, identify the year and semester that the manual was used in parentheses, place a comma in between, and then place a period after the closed parentheses. Next, list the title of the manual and place a period after the title. Then, write the location and name of the university and follow with a period. If your citations are end notes, you may need to pinpoint the specific page referenced.Under ACS style, there are 3 possible ways to cite your references in text.If using superscript numbers, your end notes would include specific page numbers where necessary. These are placed inside any punctuation. These also refer to end notes, which would include specific page numbers where necessary. When using this method, your citation would not necessarily include specific page numbers. Instead, you'd note the page number within the parenthetical citation if necessary. There are 3 acceptable style variations in CSE: the name-year or Harvard style, the citation-sequence or Vancouver style, and the citation-name style. This is the method preferred by the CSE, so use it if you have no other guidance. The citations in your reference list are ordered by their first mention in your paper or report. For a lab manual, the author typically is the professor or instructor of the class in which the manual is used. Start with their last name, then a comma and their first and middle initials. Capitalize initials with no periods or spaces. If you're using the Harvard style, the author's name is followed by the year of publication. This is typically the year in which the lab manual was used. The title of the lab manual follows either the author's name (Vancouver) or the year of publication (Harvard). Use sentence-case, capitalizing only the first word and any proper nouns in the title. Capitalize course names or abbreviations as they appear. For a lab manual, the university where the instructor or professor teaches is typically considered the publisher. Provide the city where the university is located, followed by the state or province in parentheses. Place a colon after the location information, then provide the name of the university. Close with a period for Harvard style.

The Editorial Process It has four stages: the draft manuscript, manuscript review, the final manuscript, and processing of accepted manuscripts. Along the way, responsibility for the different stages passes from the author, to the journal or book editor, back to the author, and finally to the technical editor. This chapter provides an overview of each of these stages as they evolve in scientific, technical, and medical (STM) publishing. Writing Style and Word Usage Scientific writing, in particular, must be precise and unambiguous to be effective. This chapter presents guidelines for correct sentence structure and word usage. Other chapters of this book present topics also related to good writing style. Chapter 2 discusses the parts of a scientific paper; Chapter 3 presents an overview of the editorial process. Chapters in Part 2 address more specialized rules for usage; see, especially, Chapter 9 on grammar, punctuation, and spelling and Chapter 10 on editorial style. Electronic Submission of Manuscripts Using Web-Based Systems Sarah C. Blendermann The use of the Web and e-mail enables the peer-review process to move more rapidly, speeding review and decision cycles. And although scientific research has always been an international activity, journal publishing is increasingly global, with authors, reviewers, and editors contributing from numerous countries and all participants benefiting from electronic communications. Peer Review Barbara A. Booth It is not the only system used to evaluate manuscripts, and it is not perfect. Editors of peer-reviewed books and journals send manuscripts to several reviewers and request their opinions on originality and scientific importance of the topic, the quality of the work performed, and the appropriateness for the specific journal. Reviewers may also comment on language usage, clarity of figures and tables, manuscript length, and anything that they find relevant to effective communication.

Login with ACS ID Please reconnect At the outset of this chapter, we should pin our flag firmly to a rather different mast. This chapter is less about the application of style to the presentation of a document and more about the general principles involved in its application to data to achieve a homogeneous form capable of being reused. It is not so much about how to create a document, but rather about how to create a more data-focused entity we call a datument (1), that is, a container for data and its associated descriptions. The datument can have conventional attributes of authorship, affiliation, and other familiar structural components, such as sections, tables, figures, and bibliography, but it extends this by also carrying data. This differs from, for instance, tabulated or quoted data typical of that found in most chemical documents. Part 1: Scientific Communication Ethics in Scientific Publication Gordon G. Hammes However, as always, “the devil is in the details.” The ethical responsibilities of authors and reviewers are sufficiently important and complex that the editors of the American Chemical Society journals have developed a detailed document outlining these responsibilities. (This document, “Ethical Guidelines to Publication of Chemical Research” is presented in Appendix 1-1.) The purpose of this chapter is not to duplicate this document, but rather to discuss some of the important underlying principles and situations that often arise. Scientific Papers Scientists communicate in a variety of ways, but much of the communication is through publication in books and journals. In this chapter, the different types of book and journal presentations are described, along with the components of the standard format for reporting original research.

Punctuation, spelling, and word usage are also discussed in Chapter 11 with respect to numbers, mathematics, and units of measure and in Chapter 12 with respect to chemical names. Editorial Style The style recommended by ACS is, for the most part, taken from established authoritative sources, such as The Chicago Manual of Style, Words into Type, and the United States Government Printing Office Style Manual. Numbers, Mathematics, and Units of Measure The usage and style conventions for numerals and words are different for technical and nontechnical material. Names and Numbers for Chemical Compounds More than one million new substances are reported each year, each of which must be identified clearly, unambiguously, and completely in the primary literature. For more information on naming chemical compounds, refer to the bibliography in Chapter 18. This chapter gives the editorial conventions and style points for chemical compound names. Conventions in Chemistry Appendix 13-1 presents the symbols for commonly used physical quantities. References Janet S. Dodd, Leah Solla, and Paula M. Berard Many of the references in the examples were created to illustrate a style point under discussion; they may not be real references. Figures Betsy Kulamer The past 10 years have seen a radical technological shift in the way figures are created by authors and handled by publishers. Whereas authors previously submitted figures that were camera-ready—that is, ready for the printer’s camera to photograph before making printing plates— today many authors create figures using computer software, and most publishers encourage electronic versions of figures. This chapter presents guidelines for working with figures using the computer tools currently in widespread use; it also includes recommendations regarding the use of color, fonts, and scanners, as well as good style for citing and captioning figures.

This chapter is intended to introduce a complex and constantly changing legal area; we do not intend to provide legal advice. The first section is an overview of U.S. copyright law: what materials are subject to copyright, who owns copyright, and when copyrighted materials may be used by others. The second part of the chapter presents the methods of obtaining permission to use someone else’s copyrighted work. The third part briefly explains how copyright is transferred from the author to the publisher. Markup Languages and the Datument Peter Murray-Rust and Henry S. Rzepa In a conventional sense, style is traditionally presentational in objective and is aimed at producing a (visually) homogeneous form suitable for aggregation into a journal issue or a book. At the outset of this chapter, we should pin our flag firmly to a rather different mast. Part 2: Style Guidelines Grammar, Punctuation, and Spelling It does not attempt to discuss all the rules of grammar; many excellent grammar texts are available for that purpose, such as those given in the selected bibliography, Chapter 18. Writing style and word usage are discussed in Chapter 4.

Chapter 14 contains the rules for how to cite references in text and create a bibliography. Consult Chapter 14 for more detailed citation issues. These abbreviations are standardized by the Chemical Abstract Service Source Index (CASSI). Just search for the name of the journal and CASSI will give you the appropriate abbreviation. Citation Managers will help you: If a reference is cited more than once, it does not receive a new number. If citing more than one reference at a time, include reference numbers in increasing order separated by commas. Different reference formats (book vs. journal vs. website) have different rules for citation. See below for some common format examples. Omit words like “Company,” “Inc.,” “Publisher,” and “Press” in publishers’ names. Some ACS publications include the chapter title in book references, while others do not. Check with the publication itself. Using the word “In” signifies the primary author(s) wrote only part of the book, not the entire book. In Active Oxygens, Lipid Peroxides, and Antioxidants; Yagi K., Ed.; Japan Scientific Societies: Tokyo; CRC: Boca Raton, FL, 1993; pp 57-67. Some ACS publications include the article title while others do not. In ACS journals, capitalization follows that of the original publication; in other publications, the main words are capitalized. Check with the publication itself. Year of publication is bolded. Use CASSI (Chemical Abstracts Service Source Index) to find standard journal abbreviations. Include the author name if one is listed. Add “Home Page” to website titles as needed. T3627; Mallinckrodt Baker: Phillipsburg, NJ, November 12, 2003. Ridder Tribune News Service, Sept. 4, 2002, p 1. US Patent 5,380,946, January 10, 1995. Always check at the beginning of term and before starting assignments that the citing rules you are using are appropriate for your class. Our role is to help students learn how to cite. Students are responsible for proofreading their own citations. However, the references chapter is still somewhat of a work in progress, and there are plant to update it on a regular basis to keep it current. For the in-text citations, parenthetical numering like (1) or (1,2) is used for the HTML versions, while superscripts like 1 or 1,2 are used for the PDFs.The reference lists are also formatted differently. The in-text numbers in the HTML version (and sometimes PDFs as well) usually link to the actual reference at the end of the paper. Again, all of this is done by ACS once the article has been accepted. But you should also consult with your instructor if needed. You will be expected to cite your sources correctly. Check your information and format carefully. Note that the text boxes in the Chemical Literature Assignment only allow plain text. Therefore, you will not be expected to include bold and italicized text in your citations for this assignment. You must cite the article, not the database. The format for electronic copies of articles is similar to print articles, with a few changes. This also applies to the Merck monograph number. Details from editor names, publication dates, to edition numbers and CAS RNs will likely need to be corrected so that the citation is accurate. When rotating, the permanent magnet motor feeds power to the intermediate circuit of the drive and also the supply connections become live (even when the inverter is stopped!). Disconnect the motor from the drive with a safety switch, or lock the motor shaft and earth the motor connection terminals temporarily by connecting them together as well as to the PE. Normal use Ensure that the permanent magnet motor cannot rotate at too high a speed. Overspeed leads to overvoltage which may explode the capacitors in the intermediate circuit of the drive. Permanent magnet motor may be used with ACS 600 Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) System Application Program, or with other application programs in scalar control mode only. Supply Connections ACx 6x7 units include an on-load isolating switch fuse with handle in the front door. The supply disconnecting device must be locked to the open position during installation and maintenance work. The mains will be connected to earth potential through the EMC filter of the ACx 600 which may cause danger or damage the unit. Disconnect the EMC filter capacitors before connecting the ACx 600 to unearthed mains. For detailed instructions on how to do this, please contact your local ABB distributor. The motor must not be controlled with the supply disconnecting device; instead, the and keys of the Control Panel or commands via the digital inputs (NIOC board) or serial communication (NAMC board) of the ACx 600 should be used. The maximum number of charging cycles of the d.c. capacitors of ACx 600 (i.e. power-ups by applying the input power) is five in ten minutes. WARNING! Never connect the mains (line power) to the ACx 600 output. If frequent bypassing is required, employ mechanically connected switches or contactors that prevent simultaneous connection of the motor to the supply network and to the output of the ACx 600. Mains (line) voltage applied to the output can result in permanent damage to the unit.

The following notation is used throughout the manual: Dangerous Voltage WARNING. The text next to this symbol describes ways to avoid the danger. The text next to this symbol describes ways to avoid the danger. Electrostatic Discharge WARNING.The text next to this symbol describes ways to avoid the danger. CAUTION! Note: Aims to draw special attention to a particular issue. Gives additional information or points out more information available on the subject. Neglecting these instructions can cause physical injury and death. WARNING! All electrical installation and maintenance work on the ACx 600 should be carried out by qualified electricians. Do not attempt any work on a powered ACx 600. After switching off the mains, always allow the intermediate circuit capacitors 5 minutes to discharge before working on the frequency converter, the motor or the motor cable. The voltage between each input terminal (U1, V1, W1) and earth must be measured with a multimeter (impedance at least 1M9) to ensure that the frequency converter is discharged before beginning work. All insulation tests must be carried out with the ACx 600 disconnected from the cabling. The ACx 600 motor cable terminals are at a dangerously high voltage when input power is applied, regardless of motor operation. No work on the motor cable should be attempted with mains power applied. There can be dangerous voltages inside the ACx 600 from external control circuits when the ACx 600 input power is shut off. No work on the control cables should be attempted when power is applied to the frequency converter or to the external control circuits. Exercise appropriate care when working with the unit.Installation and maintenance work When a permanent magnet motor is connected to the drive, ensure that the driven machine cannot rotate the motor during installation and maintenance work.

Modern variable speed drives with their fast rising voltage pulses and high switching frequencies can cause current pulses through the motor bearings which can gradually erode the bearing races. To avoid damage to motor bearings, insulated N-end (non-driven end) bearings and output filters from ABB must be used according to the following table. In addition, the cables must be selected and installed according to the instructions given in this manual. The common mode filter is composed of toroidal cores installed onto the motor cable. The motor manufacturer should be consulted regarding the construction of the motor insulation and additional requirements for explosion-safe motors. Failure of the motor to fulfil the following requirements or improper installation may shorten motor life or damage the motor bearings.Consult the motor manufacturer. Note 3: HXR and AMA Motors All AMA machines (manufactured in Helsinki) to be supplied by a frequency converter have form-wound windings. All HXR machines manufactured in Helsinki since 1997 have form-wound windings. Note 4: Chopper Resistor Braking When the drive is in braking mode for a large part of its operation time, the intermediate circuit DC voltage of the drive increases, the effect being similar to increasing the supply voltage by up to 20 percent. This should be taken into consideration when determining the motor insulation requirement. Example: Motor insulation requirement for a 400 V application must be selected as if the drive were supplied with 480 V. Note 5: This table applies to NEMA motors with the following heading. The requirements for the motor insulation system given in the table are worst case requirements covering the ACS 600 installations with 30 metre and longer cables. The ACx 600 introduces electric motors, drive train mechanisms and driven machines to an extended operating range. It should be determined from the outset that all equipment is up to these conditions. WARNING!

Operation outside the nominal voltage range should not be attempted, as overvoltages can result in permanent damage to the ACx 600.This is not a personal safety or a fire protection feature. The earth fault protective function can be disabled by Parameter EARTH FAULT (Standard Application Program) and Parameter (Crane Application Program). The internal earth fault protective function is not in use in the 12-pulse supplied units. For ACS 62x units, refer to subsection Special for ACx 6x7 Units from 315 to 630 kw. The EMC filter of the ACx 600 includes capacitors connected between the main circuit and the frame. These capacitors increase the earth (ground) leakage current through the PE connector to the mains (line) which may cause some fault current circuit breakers to function. Power Loss Ridethrough Function WARNING. When equipped with a main contactor option, the drive also includes a Power Loss Ride-through function which keeps the drive control live during during a short main supply break. Emergency Stop Devices Emergency stop devices must be installed at each operator control station and at other operating stations where emergency stop may be required. Pressing the key on the Control Panel of ACx 600 does not generate an emergency stop of the motor or separate the drive from dangerous potential. Line Contactor and Emergency Stop Switch are factory installed as option for ACx 6x7.As with all frequency converters employing the most modern IGBT inverter technology, the ACx 600 output comprises regardless of output frequency pulses of approximately 1.35 times the mains network voltage with a very short rise time. The voltage of the pulses can be almost double at the motor terminals, depending on the motor cable properties. This in turn can cause additional stress on the motor insulation.

The ACx 600 and the motor must be earthed at the installation site to ensure personnel safety in all circumstances and in addition to reduce electromagnetic emission and pick-up. Make sure that earthing (grounding) conductors are adequately sized as required by safety regulations. In addition, cable screens have to be connected to protective earth (PE) in order to meet safety regulations. Power cable screens are suitable for use as equipment earthing (grounding) conductors only when the screen conductors are adequately sized as required by safety regulations. The ACx 600 earth (ground) terminals should not be connected in series in case of a multiple installation. Incorrect earthing can cause physical injury, death or equipment malfunction and increase electromagnetic interference. IEC 664 requires double or reinforced insulation between live parts and the surface of accessible parts of electrical equipment which are either non-conductive or conductive but not connected to the protective earth. To fulfil this requirement, the connection of a thermistor (and other similar components) to the digital inputs of ACx 600 can be implemented in three alternate ways: 1. There is double or reinforced insulation between the thermistor and live parts of the motor. 2. Circuits connected to all digital and analogue inputs of the ACx 600 are protected against contact, and insulated with basic insulation (the same voltage level as the converter main circuit) from other low voltage circuits. 3. An external thermistor relay is used. The insulation of the relay must be rated for the same voltage level as the converter main circuit.WARNING! The printed circuit boards contain integrated circuits that are extremely sensitive to electrostatic discharge. Exercise appropriate care when working on the unit to avoid permanent damage to the circuits. Do not touch the boards unnecessarily. Cooling WARNING! The cooling air flows and space requirements must be fulfilled.

There are several automatic reset functions in the ACS 600 (with Standard Application Program). If selected, they reset the unit and resume operation after a fault. These functions should not be selected if other equipment is not compatible with this kind of operation, or dangerous situations can be caused by such action. WARNING! If an external source for start command is selected and it is ON, the ACS 600 (with Standard Application Program) will start immediately after fault reset. These devices are not designed to be used with frequency converters, and will degrade motor control accuracy. They can cause permanent damage to the ACx 600 or themselves due to the rapid changes in the ACx 600 output voltage. If there are power factor compensation capacitors in parallel with the ACx 600 make sure that the capacitors and the ACx 600 are not charged simultaneously to avoid voltage surges which might damage the unit. Output Contactors Earth (Ground) Connections Relay Contacts If a contactor is used between the output of the ACx 600 and the motor with DTC control mode selected, the output voltage of the ACx 600 must be controlled to zero before the contactor is opened. Otherwise the contactor will be damaged. With Standard Application Program, check the settings of Parameters STOP FUNCTION and RUN ENABLE. Varistors or RC networks (AC) or diodes (DC) should be used to protect against voltage transients generated by contactor coils. The protective components should be mounted as close as possible to the contactor coils. Protective components should not be installed at the NIOC board terminal block. When used with inductive loads (relays, contactors, motors), the relay contacts of ACx 600 must be protected with varistors or RC networks (AC) or diodes (DC) against voltage transients. The protective components should not be installed at the NIOC board terminal block. The ACx 600 and adjoining equipment must be properly earthed.

For EN codes of the manuals refer to inside of the front cover of this manual. If the ACx 600 is equipped with another application program, see the appropriate Firmware Manual. Before attempting installation and operation, check the information on the frequency converter nameplate to verify that the unit is of the correct model. Each ACx 600 is fitted with a nameplate for identification purposes. The nameplate data includes a type code and a serial number, which allow individual recognition of each unit. The type code contains information on the properties and configuration of the unit. The first digit of the serial number refers to the manufacturing plant. The next four digits refer to the unit s manufacturing year and week, respectively. The remaining digits complete the serial number so that there are no two units with the same serial number. Not all selections are available for all types. More information on selections is given in ACS 600 SingleDrive Ordering Information guide (code:, available on request). Character Meaning Refer to no. If the local ABB representative cannot be contacted, inquiries should be addressed to ABB Industry, Helsinki, Finland. For installation of ACx 604 module in a cabinet refer to a supplement to this manual: Converter Module Installation in User-defined Cabinet (EN code: ). The ACx 6x7 should be installed in an upright vertical position. The floor that the unit is installed on should be of non-flammable material, as smooth as possible, and strong enough to support the weight of the unit. The maximum allowed deviation from the surface level must be 30 Chapter 2 Mechanical Installation Fastening Clamps Insert the clamp into the longitudinal hole in the edge of the cabinet frame body and fasten it with a bolt to the floor. The longitudinal holes for fixing are marked in the dimensional drawings. The electrical installation described in this chapter should only be carried out by a qualified electrician.

The Safety Instructions on the first pages of this manual must be followed. Negligence of these instructions can cause injury or death. Insulation Checks Every ACx 600 unit has been tested for insulation between main circuit and chassis (2500 V rms 50 Hz for 1 second) at the factory. Therefore there is no need to check the insulation on the unit again. When checking the insulation of the assembly, proceed in the following manner: WARNING. Insulation checks must be performed before connecting the ACx 600 to the mains. Before proceeding with the insulation resistance measurements make sure that the ACx 600 is disconnected from the mains. 9 PE M 1. Check that the motor cable is disconnected from the ACx 600 output terminals U2, V2 and W2. 2. Measure the insulation resistances of motor cable and the motor between each phase and Protective Earth with measuring voltage 1 kv d.c. The insulation resistance must be higher than 1 M9. Mains Fuses Fuses are needed to protect the input bridge of the ACx 600 in case of an internal short circuit. The ACx 604 is not equipped with input fuses. An ultrarapid fuse must be used. The ACx 600 protects the input and motor cables from overload when the cables are dimensioned according to the nominal current of the ACx 600. When the ultrarapid fuses of the ACx 604 are placed at the distribution board, they protect the input cable in case of a short circuit. Cabling Instructions Power Cables The mains and motor cables must be dimensioned according to local regulations: 1. The cable must be able to carry the ACx 600 load current. 2. The cable terminals of ACx 600 warm up to 60 C (140 F) during operation. The cable must be rated for at least 60 C (140 F) maximum operating temperature. 3 The cable must fulfil the requirements of the short-circuit protection used. 4.

Special attention must be paid to cooling if units are installed in confined spaces and user defined cabinets. Air flow from below, e.g. a cable conduit, into the cabinet must be prevented. This is essential for fire safety reasons, and to retain the original degree of protection. For best results, use the lead-through plates delivered with the unit. Mechanical Installation CAUTION. The ACx 6x7 should only be transported on the original pallet, or with a proper lifting device using the lifting lugs on top of the cabinet. The frequency converter is not intended to be lifted by running lines under the unit. The ACx 6x7 centre of gravity is quite high, and there is the risk of overturning. The ACx 6x7 can be laid on its back to fit through confined spaces. Exercise appropriate care when manoeuvring the unit to avoid damage and injury. This work should only be attempted with two or more people working together. CAUTION! Make sure that dust from drilling does not enter the ACx 600 when installing. Electrically conductive dust inside the unit may cause damage or lead to malfunction. CAUTION! The ACx 6x7 should not be fastened by any other point than the holes at its base or the fastening hooks. Do not fasten the ACx 600 by riveting or welding. WARNING! Make sure that the ACx 6x7 is disconnected from the mains network during installation. The switch fuse (with handle in the front door) of the ACx 6x7 does not switch off power from the EMC Line Filter. Disconnect the ACx 6x7 with EMC Line Filter from the mains network at the distribution board. Wait for 5 minutes before working on the frequency converter, the motor or the motor cable. Note: On units not equipped with main contactors, additional wiring by the commissioner is required for activation of the mains fuse supervision of the ACx 6x7 and the earth fault detection functions of the ACx 627. It is recommended that these functions be wired to switch off the mains supply should a fuse failure or an earth fault occur.

Definitions EMC stands for Electromagnetic Compatibility. Likewise, the equipment must not disturb or interfere with any other product or system within its locality. First environment includes establishments connected to a low-voltage network, which supplies buildings used for domestic purposes. Second environment includes establishments connected to a network not supplying domestic premises. Restricted distribution: mode of sales distribution in which the manufacturer restricts the supply of equipment to suppliers, customers or users who separately or jointly have technical competence in the EMC requirements of the application of drives. Unrestricted distribution: mode of sales distribution in which the supply of equipment is not dependent on the EMC competence of the customer or user for the application of drives. Compliance with IEC First environment (restricted distribution) The drive complies with the limits of IEC with the following provisions: 1. The drive is equipped with an EMC filter. 2. The drive is installed according to the instructions given in the Hardware Manual. 3. The motor and control cables used are selected as specified in the Hardware Manual. 4. Maximum cable length is 100 meters. Notes: The drive must not be equipped with the EMC when installed to IT (unearthed) networks. The mains become connected to earth potential through the EMC filter capacitors. In IT systems this may cause danger or damage the unit. EMC filters are not available for 690 V. Second environment The drive complies with the limits of IEC with the following provisions: 1. It is ensured that no excessive emission is propagated to a neighbouring low-voltage network (refer to page A-29 Figure). In some cases, the natural suppression in transformers and cables is sufficient. We expect that you have a basic knowledge of physical and electrical fundamentals, electrical wiring practices, electrical components and electrical schematic symbols.

The inductance and impedance of the cable must be rated according to permissible touch voltage appearing under fault conditions (so that the fault point voltage will not rise too high when an earth fault occurs). The voltage rating of the mains cables should be 1 kv for 690 VAC rated equipment. For the North American market, 600 VAC rated cable is accepted for 600 VAC rated equipment. Voltage rating for the motor cables should be minimum 1 kv as a general rule. Symmetrical shielded motor cable must be used (figure below). Four-conductor system is allowed for mains cabling, but shielded symmetrical cable is recommended. To operate as a protective conductor, the shield conductivity must be at least 50 % of the conductivity of the phase lead. Compared to a four-conductor system, the use of symmetrical shielded cable reduces electromagnetic emission of the whole drive system as well as motor bearing currents and wear. Recommended Symmetrical shielded cable: three phase conductors and a concentric or otherwise symmetrically constructed PE conductor, and a shield PE conductor and shield Shield A separate PE conductor is required if the conductivity of the cable shield is View more Safety instructions User s manual ACS355 drives User s manual ACS355 drives All Rights Reserved. 5 Safety instructions Hardware manual PVS800-57 central inverters (100 to 1000 kw) INSTR 030 REL. 090930. 2009 MTE Corporation INSTR 030 REL. 090930 2009 MTE Corporation IMPORTANT USER INFORMATION NOTICE MTE Series RLW reactors are components designed to improve the reliability Transistor D.C. If neglected, physical injury and death may follow, or damage may occur to the frequency converter, the motor and driven equipment. The material in this chapter must be studied before attempting any work on, or with, the unit. CAUTION! Aims to draw special attention to a particular issue. The voltage between each input terminal (U1, V1, W1) and earth must be measured with a multimeter (impedance at least 1 MW) to ensure that the frequency converter is discharged before beginning work. Exercise appropriate care when working with the unit.
